What this tool answers

You need a first-pass portable evaporative (swamp) cooler class for a US garage, patio, shop, or open room. The calculator scales floor area by ventilation, then names the smallest class on this ladder (1,400, 2,100, or 3,100 CFM) — or returns NO_MATCH.

Why ventilation matters

Evaporative cooling needs air exchange. Poorly ventilated rooms underperform even large CFM ratings. Factors 1.0 / 1.15 / 1.3 are transparent screens — not a full psychrometric model.

Humidity limits

These units work best in dry climates (often cited below ~60% RH). In humid weather, cooling effect drops and rooms can feel muggy.

When the answer is NO_MATCH

If effective area exceeds ~950 sq ft on this ladder, the site returns NO_MATCH. Split zones or use a larger industrial cooler — do not force a 3,100 CFM consumer class.
